Matthew Arnold Mortiis has always been a distinctive figure in the world of black metal/ambient, ( I always loved the "things that are not true about Mortiis" on his old website), but there's no questioning the atmosphere of these early works, and the new "Dungeon Synth" genre wouldn't exist without them. This one's my favorite; majestic and wintry. And I have always thought the nose and ears were cool.

jimmy379 This album speaks to me in ways I simply cannot describe! It just takes you to another place, time and dimension! It is exquisite! Peaceful, yet with a slightly sinister undertone!

about

Mortiis Oslo, Norway

Joined Emperor 1991.
Fired from Emperor on grounds of a "bad attitude" late 1992.
Formed Mortiis next day.
Planned recordings in Transylvania 1993.
That did not happen.
Released several solo albums in the 90´ies & weirding out the music industry with his prosthetic mask.
Oh those yonder days of media hypocrisy.
Became band. Band died.
Broke ribs, dreams and industry shackles, but remained free.
