GHOSTS OF EUROPA feat Iliana Basileios Tsakiraki

by Mortiis

COTBW exclusive

Sounds mutating out of other sounds, possibly turning into songs of their own...

Part of the project with Stephan Groth / Apoptygma Bezerk (also featuring Sarah Jezebel Deva and Laurie Ann Haus).

The artwork is just a placeholder. It is not album art.

This is a work in progress, and has been evolving based on the vocals Iliana sent me recently. I felt inspired to extend and rearrange the parts where she had contributed, and slowly started realising that this was becoming it´s own creation. The way I work at first, when inspiration hits, is fast and sloppy, lest I forget my ideas and what I´m trying to do.
So, that said, the audio in the background, is choppy, and "badly looped". That is because I worked fast, to extend the audio to fit my ideas. All of that will be re-recorded to sound smooth and seamless in the end.
I thought perhaps another, slightly deeper, sneak peak into the working progress might be of interest to you.

Another nugget, for the ones that may or may not be wondering: That vintage string machine going on in the background, is based on a couple of samples of a mystery version of an old Crumar Synthesizer. To my ears, one of the best string machines ever. Up there with the ARP Solina. Both hi and low string sounds are from the same set of samples. The low register one, is also passing through a Lopass filter. The high register, has some pitch bend added to it for that "Vangelis effect". They´re both passing through chorus, reverb, and delay.
