Ralph Love This is so unbelievably great!! A perfect bridge between Era 1 and Era 2! This needs to exist on vinyl or in some physical capacity! It’s amazing! Favorite track: Transcending Morpheus (demo).

Erik327 Honestly wish Era 2 was much longer... this and "Smell of Rain" is by far the most influential and innovative music I've heard in my life. Was a game changer for me. Remember interviewing Mortiis for radio in college over the phone and how pumped he was about "Smell of Rain" even though I hadn't heard it yet. After hearing it, I totally understood his excitement.

about

These are demos of songs that were written, but never properly recorded (nor used) for the The Smell of Rain album.

They were recorded sometime in early 2000 (my estimate), directly onto a Cassette Deck, using my shitty Fisher Stereo System at the time. No fancy digital vocal editing or anything, just one take right onto tape.

These are my earliest (with one or two exceptions, and they don´t really count) attempts at lead vocals.

To the best of my knowledge and recollection, these are also the only audio recordings from my time spent living on top of a mountain, in a 100+ year old cottage, with no hot water, and no proper bathroom or plumbing. I had a sink, with ice cold water coming out of the tap, and an ancient barn, with an outhouse inside of it.

I lived there for 18 months, and slowly lost my mind.

I wrote The Smell of Rain there.

about

Mortiis Oslo, Norway

Joined Emperor 1991.
Fired from Emperor on grounds of a "bad attitude" late 1992.
Formed Mortiis next day.
Planned recordings in Transylvania 1993.
That did not happen.
Released several solo albums in the 90´ies & weirding out the music industry with his prosthetic mask.
Oh those yonder days of media hypocrisy.
Became band. Band died.
Broke ribs, dreams and industry shackles, but remained free.
